DANA KATZ, a supported artist by The Kevin Spacey Foundation, an award-winning dance filmmaker (American Dance Festival), Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's artist in residence is the choreographer and artistic director of DANAKA Collective.
For eight years she has been introducing and curating the Out of Israel Program presented at the 92Y in Manhattan. As the initiator of the expansion of the program into OFI | Movement Out of Israel, she recruits and select Israeli artists to perform in New York and elsewhere, conducts multiple partnerships with institutions, produces workshops and intercultural exchange between Israel and new communities.
OFI, an “intimate and conceptually daring work that still exudes the anxious, palpable intensity that has become a mark of the Israeli dance sensibility“ (New York Times, Brian Schaefer) has already been presented at Arts on Site in the East Village and Hurleyville Arts Center in Upstate NY.
Katz holds her BA from The Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne University Australia, and her MFA from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
She was an artist in residence at The Yard in Martha’s Vineyard, Springboard Danse Montreal, Chez Bushwick in Brooklyn, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC's) Workspace 2016-17, and this June is invited to participate in the Hong Kong International Choreography Festival 2018 as a choreographer in residence.
Her work has been supported by The America-Israel Cultural Foundation, Israeli Lottery Council for the Arts, IKI in Budapest, Emerging Jewish Artist Fellowship and numerous Israeli consulates around the world. Her works were also commissioned and presented by The Suzanne Dellal Center for the Arts and Warehouse 2 (Tel Aviv), La Mama (NY), The 92nd Street Y (NY), The Guelph Dance Festival (CANADA), Danca em Foco (BRAZIL), Act Festival (SPAIN), Dance Media Tokyo (JAPAN), The Flea (NY), Triskelion Arts (NY), Thessaloniki Video Dance Festival (GREECE) among others. Katz is also a founding member of Gibney Dance Center’s Digital Technology Initiative.
Her work U.i was finalist in The ZsoloDuo Festival (HUNGARY), and on her evening length work Thousand Plateaus The New York Times had noted:
